Triptico- The Key to an Interesting Class

Introduction

Do you want your class to be more interactive and full of fun? Do you want your students to be more focused in the class? If so, this blog may inspire you.

Today, I would like to recommend all English teachers a website called Triptico(Please click here to visit the website) - which will help you design interesting class activities and make your class more attractive.

Recommended Functions

I would like to introduce several tools that I think will be helpful in English language class. These tools are classified into two categories, including class management and activity design.

    

• Class Management

In this part, tools which are useful in counting time and managing students would be introduced.

      Time management 
     
          Circle Timer
          

The Circle Timer can be used to counted down time. For example, when the teacher gives students a 10-minute break, he or she can use this timer to alert students to focus on the class again. This timer is also a useful tool when students have to finish a task within certain time.

The advantage is that teachers do not have to stare at the clock all the time because when time is up, the timer will alert. However, the sounds of the clock may disturb students!

Task Timer

This timer can be used to count time, especially when teachers ask students to accomplish a task within limited time. For example, to  write down three adjectives which can be used to describe a person's characteristic within 10 seconds..

Compared with the Circle Timer, the task will be displayed in the screen when using the Task Timer in case that students may forget the task. However, being afraid of running out of time, students may not focus on their tasks and feel stressful when looking at the the timer.

      

     Student Management

Student Group

This tool can classify students into different groups and tutor can decide the number of the students in each group.

The advantage is that there is no need for teachers to waste time  calculating how many students are there in each group since this tool will do it for you! The disadvantage is that when creating this activity, teachers have to spend much time inputting students’ names if there are too many students in their class. 

Student Selector

This tool can help teachers to choose random students to answer the questions.

The strengths are that it can help teachers avoid the embarrassment of forgetting students’ names and it is also a good way to make students to be familiar with their classmates’ names.

The weakness is that it will be time consuming to create such a tool if there are too many students in a class as you have to type their names one by one. The best way to solve this problem is to  remember  all your students' names. 

• Activity Design

I would like to introduce some activities that I think will be useful in practising what teachers have taught.

     Classification Tasks

Provided that the teacher has taught students different kinds of suffixes. In order to let students consolidate those suffixes, teachers can design an activity to allow students to classified words into different groups according to their suffixes. This activity can be designed in two types of tools-Word Magnets and Connections.

Word magnets

Compared with the Connections , unlimited number of words can be added into the page, whereas only four sets of word is displayed in the Connections.

Unlike the Word Magnets, students will know the result as soon as they finish the task in the Connections. However, if teachers use the Word Magnets, they have to judge whether the answer is right or not by themselves.

Quizzes

There are two tools that can help teachers examine if students really master what has been taught. For example, if teachers aim to test if students can distinguish between countable nouns and uncountable nouns, they can try these tools:

Swipe!
                                         

Find Ten
                                         

You can see all the words in the Find ten, but the Swipe will only display one word a time, which may be difficult for teachers to give the final feedback. However, countless words can be loaded into the Swipe, whereas only 15 words can be added into the Find Ten.

Summary

Overall, Triptico is an amazing website for English language teachers to design attractive class activities. However, instead of downloading the activity alone, you have to log in to the website before displaying the activity in the classroom.
