Tubequizard-Quizzes for Videos

Watching English videos is considered as an interesting way to learn English. However, it is unlikely to learn English effectively just by watching videos again and again. So how to use English videos to learn English effectively? I hope today’s blog will spark your ideas.

  • Introduction

The online tool that I would like to introduce is called Tubequizard. It is a video- based quiz website, which allows learners to improve their English skills through watching or creating subtitled videos.

  • How to use it?

1. Searching for quizzes:
Step 1 After opening the homepage of tubequizard(http://tubequizard.com/), you can choose the level, type, category, and variety that fits you the best. Notice that you can choose more than one item in each filter.

Step 2 Choose a video you like, and begin your quiz! Once you click the gap, the video will be played and learners require to fill in the gaps.

Step 3 After finishing all the gaps, click 'check' to see what will happen!
(if you type the right answer, the blank will turn green)

(if you type the wrong answer, the blank will turn red)

Step 4  Finally, click 'calculate score' to see how many scores you gain totally!

2. Find the video you like:
Firstly, click 'train with your video' on the top of the website. Then, input the key word. For example, if you are a big fan of Disney animation, you can type 'disney' before clicking 'search'.

 3. Creating your own video:
Step 1 Select a subtitled video (not a video with automatic subtitle) on the youtube.

Step 2 Copy the link into the textbox and click ‘create quizzes’, and then you will find there are many quizzes based on the video you have chosen.

4. Improving specific ability:
Supposed that learners are not good at articles, they can also improve it by watching the video. Users can type ‘the|an’ in the text box and then they will find the appropriate videos.
(searching for 'the|an')

(the result of the search)
  • Why choose it?

💗Full of fun. English learners can choose the video they fancy to practice their pronunciation, grammar or vocabulary.

💗Functional. Users can either search for the video they are interested in or create the video by themselves.

💗Motivating. This tool is based on quizzes, which makes it quite motivating. To get higher scores, students may watch videos carefully. In this process, students’ English ability may be improved.

  • Limitations

🌙Videos are only from the youtube. Users can only select the videos from the youtube.

🌙Practising single ability. In each video, learners can only choose to practice one aspect such as vocabulary, rather than a combination of two or more.

🌙The Speed of the video is invariable. The speed of the video cannot be changed, which may make it difficult for beginners to dictate.
